8 Wednesdays: March 18th - May 6th

As the class moves on, students will have the freedom to explore their preferred palettes, oil painting mediums, and styles in a guided environment. This class will be a good introduction for students who are new to oil painting, but it also has a lot to offer for experienced painters looking to practice their observational painting and portrait painting skills. The class is open to ages 14 and up.
Students who select the starter supplies will have all materials needed at the studio & ready for them to use. View the starter supply list to see what is provided in these kits.

Getting the Likeness
Instructor: Philip Salamone (@philipsalamone)
Saturday, March 21st, 10:00am - 2:30pm
In this mini-workshop, students will learn a clear, step-by-step approach to ensure that their drawings and paintings look like the model every single time. The linear drawing of the placements / proportions / gesture / perspective can be very challenging, but we don’t need to cross our fingers and leave it up to chance. With this straightforward system, students will learn a foolproof method that will ensure accuracy, confidence, and speed in their pursuit of a linear drawing that looks and feels just like the model before moving in with value or color. Workshop will include exercises with two different models, and the workshop price includes model fees.
Class size is limited to 12 students.
Painting People: The Portrait to the Clothed Figure

We will start by exploring limited palettes to hone our color mixing while building our understanding of light and shadow, temperature, form, and basic human anatomy. As the class moves on, students will have the freedom to explore their preferred palettes, oil painting mediums, and styles in a guided environment. This class will be a good introduction for students who are new to oil painting, but it also has a lot to offer for experienced painters looking to practice their observational painting and portrait painting skills. Mix It Up! Soft Pastels & Mixed Media
Instructor: Brigitte Boucher (@brigitte.boucher)
Saturday, March 28th
9:30am - 3:30pm with a 1 hr lunch break
Did you know you can use soft pastels (aka chalk pastels) with watercolors, acrylic paints, colored pencils, and even collage? In this experimental workshop, we’ll explore ways you can take your work further by adding soft pastels to your favorite medium—or shaking up your pastel art by adding something new! With plenty of hands-on time to play, experiment, ask questions, and get feedback, we’ll cover:
Getting your pastel drawing wet (!) for interesting effects
Using watercolors or acrylics as an underpainting for pastels (or OVER pastels for mixing and blending)
Using acrylic grounds to help you layer pastels over collage elements
Using soft pastels with other dry media, such as charcoal, graphite, and colored pencils

Anatomy Bootcamp: Drawing Hands & Feet
Instructor: Brigitte Boucher (@brigitte.boucher)
Saturday, April 11th
9:30am - 4:30pm with a 1 hour lunch break
Hands and feet can be some of the trickiest body parts for artists–and with more than 2 dozen bones and muscles in each one, it’s no wonder! Yet these complex appendages can say a lot, and gaining confidence depicting them can add greatly to your portraits and figures. In this workshop, we’ll discuss the anatomy of the hands and feet, how to simplify and depict their structures, and how to use them to create gesture and movement in your work. We’ll practice using photos and plaster casts plus spend time drawing from a live model.
