This 3-session class is a foundational oil painting class focusing on the portrait. Working with a live model, we will discuss sketching with paint, head structure/proportion, composition, value, temperature, and color mixing. We will begin with a limited palette (student's choice of the dead palette or the Zorn palette--see supply list for details), and students will be invited to explore a broader spectrum on days 2 and 3. This class will be accessible to beginners new to oil painting, but could be equally valuable for experienced artists looking to hone their portrait skills and practice working from life. For those interested, we will also review safe practices for oil painting at home, and how to build a portable painting kit to bring to open studio here at Atwood Atelier.
Students who select the starter supplies will have all materials needed at the studio & ready for them to use. View the starter supply list to see what is provided in the starter supply kits.

Cancellations must be emailed to atwoodatelier@gmail.com at least 1 week prior to the first session to receive full credit (valid for 12 months) for a future class OR a refund to the credit card used minus a 15% fee.
