This six-week course introduces students to the fundamentals of representational painting through the time-honored disciplined study of plaster casts. The class emphasizes careful observation, sound drawing, and a rational understanding of light and its effects on form. Students will learn to analyze the structure of a subject, interpret the effects of light and shadow, and translate subtle shifts in value and edges into convincing three-dimensional form. Suitable for beginners as well as students seeking to strengthen their foundations, this course offers a rigorous yet accessible introduction to the principles of classical painting rooted in the atelier method.
Students who select the starter supplies will have all materials needed at the studio & ready for them to use. View the supply lists to see recommended supplies, and what is provided in the starter supply kits.
Class size is limited to 12 students.
