Discover the beauty of portrait drawing using toned paper, charcoal, and white chalk in this three-week workshop. Working on toned paper allows you to build both shadows and also include highlights, creating more convincing portraits with greater depth and realism.
Each weekly session will focus on essential portrait skills, including facial proportions, value, form, and capturing light. Students will learn how to use the mid-tone of the paper as a foundation while adding rich darks with charcoal and luminous highlights with white chalk.
This class is suitable for beginners with some drawing experience as well as intermediate artists looking to strengthen their portrait skills. Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual feedback, you'll complete a series of studies while building confidence in your ability to draw expressive, lifelike portraits.
Class size is limited to 12 students.
