This course is focused on introducing the essential principles of interpreting color through the use of a limited palette. By working with a reduced selection of pigments, students are free to focus on understanding the relationships between hue, value, and saturation without becoming overwhelmed by too many choices. Working from still life setups, and the final session with a live model, students will develop strong observational skills while learning to capture subtle shifts in temperature and value. This is essential to create convincing depth and form with a sense of color unity. Participants will find that rather than feeling restrictive, a limited palette is often liberating. This opens a path to paint with an intuitive sense of color with greater confidence and clarity. Whether you are looking to start your journey into painting or refining your practice, you will develop foundational skills that translate across all media and naturally expand into more complex palettes.
Students who select the starter supplies will have all materials needed at the studio & ready for them to use. View the starter supply list to see what is provided in these kits.
Class size is limited to 12 students.
